What age patients do you treat?

Move PT treats children from birth through 21 years old.  In special circumstances we will treat patients through young adulthood depending on their diagnosis.

I have a few concerns about my child’s development, can I schedule an evaluation only?

I

Yes! You can schedule just an evaluation, weekly sessions, biweekly sessions, monthly sessions, etc.  The frequency of treatment is dependent on the treatment plan that is recommended by your physical therapist and what works best for your child and schedule.

What diagnoses do you treat?

Move PT treats children with the following diagnoses but this list is not all inclusive – please reach out to us if you have any questions. Diagnoses include, but are not limited to, cerebral palsy, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, children with medical complexities, stroke in utero, down syndrome, hypotonia, genetic syndromes including deletions and duplications, movement delays caused by prematurity, developmental delay, torticollis/plagiocephaly, spinal cord injury, spina bifida, microcephaly, brachial plexus palsy, balance and coordination delays, toe walking and other gait dysfunctions.

What are the payment options?

Move PT accepts cash and check payments.  Insurance plans are not accepted at this time but upon request a superbill invoice can be provided so that you are able to submit for reimbursement directly from your insurance company.

When should I get a physical therapy evaluation for my child?

When

If you have concerns about your child’s development it may be a good idea to get help from a skilled therapist. Early intervention is imperative and better and quicker outcomes are associated with getting help for your child earlier rather than later. Some common development concerns include but are not limited to…
– increased stiffness in your child’s neck, arms, trunk or legs
– excessive floppiness throughout your child’s body
– if your child was born before 34-36 weeks gestational age
– poor tolerance to tummy time, inability to push through arms when lying on their tummy after 3-4 months old
– inability to hold head upright by 4 months old
– inability to move head easily to each side, stiff neck, preference to only look to one side
– decreased use of one side of their body, asymmetrical use of arms and legs
– inability to roll by 6-7 months old
– inability to sit upright independently by 8 months old
– refusal to bear weight through legs in supported standing by 9 months old
– inability to crawl (creep) by 10-11 months old
– inability to stand independently by 12 months old
– inability to walk independently by 14-15 months old
– walking on toes >25% of the time after 2 years old
– falling behind peers at preschool/school in terms of running, hopping, balancing, kicking/throwing, etc.
– frequent falling, tripping, uncoordinated body movements

How long is each session?

Each evaluation is around 60-75 minutes, treatment sessions are anywhere from 45-60 minutes long

Where do therapy sessions take place?

Where

Move PT wants you and your child to be as comfortable as possible during therapy sessions and will travel to your house to conduct evaluations and treatments.  Move PT also offers virtual consultations and treatments.  Aquatic therapy takes place at a private pool a few miles outside of uptown Charlotte, NC.
